Imposter

I should be Grateful,
After all,
It could have been
Far worse.

Still there must be
An easier way to
Learn painful
Life-lessons than
In the throes of
Grief and Despair

Gasping for air,
Fighting to breathe,
Hanging-on for a
Hint of Compassion:
In expedience
I was left alone to
Drown

This most wretched self
Bare and Barren-
Exposed
For all the world to
See and Judge,
Crushing the
Broken pieces
Of a shattered
Existence
Into nothing
Almost .

Still from
Crystal Dust,
I rise.

I am

Standing now-
Stronger,
Wiser, even
Hopeful,
Without knowing
Anything
Anymore
For certain.

At best,
The same
I will never be.

"I'm Sorry"
Richard Walters
Original song by
John Denver
