"Sister, My Sister," brtpoetry
how can we be related?
You face the world so different,
yet we are one and the same.
Your blood is in my veins,
but no two different people could there be.
You're older, but still so young;
is it me or is this gap slowly disappearing?
It is now that we have felt the bond,
with all this distance between us.
This space became our band-aid -
covering the wound we falsely named love.
But things have begun to change,
and I can say "I love you" with a straight face.
Yes, I love you sister,
I can see that now.
Your stubborn ways;
your quickness to anger;
the tears that fall from embarrassment.
I'm with you - I feel them too.
I know all about you,
for I am a part of your life.
You can feel me as well,
and though we still may not agree,
we have learned to appreciate what has been given to us.
We will always be together,
for we were made from love for each other.
Sister, my sister;
we are one.

"Home," Brian McKnight
Thinking back when we first met
I remember what you said
You said you'd never leave me
I let go of your hand
Built my castle in the sand
But now I'm reachin' out again
And I'm not letting go
Till you
Hold me
Mold me
Sometimes I feel so all alone
See I gotta find me way back home
So why don't you
Shape me
Make me
Wash me whiter than the snow
I gotta find my way
Back home
Master upon my knees i pray
I just want to be the clay
Put your arms around me
Place my life in your hands
Lord, I know I'm just a man
I know you understand
This time I'm not letting go
Till you
Anoint me
Appoint me
Sometimes I feel so alone
See, I gotta find my way back home
So why don't you
Chastise me
Baptize me
Wash me whiter than the snow
I gotta find my way
Cause I'm lost and alone
I've been wandering
Long enough to know
Humbly I search for you
And I'm not gonna rest
Till you
Choose me
Use me
Sometimes I feel so alone
I'm on my way back home
So why don't you
Direct me
Bless me
Wash me whiter then the snow
I'm on my way
Back home
To George on his 66th....
Always, Donna

"All people operate from
the same two motivations: to fulfill their desires and to escape their suffering," David Cain. |
Unapologetic Authenticity
Even playing a role to adhere to someone else's standards in order hang-on to relationships and friendships is chicken shit. I've learned the hard way stick to your OWN standards from the very beginning. It's a lot less painful for EVERYONE involved.
Don't pretend to be something you will NEVER be because you're afraid of rejection. You're just postponing the inevitable and creating bad feelings every step of the way to the point NOTHING is salvageable.
Enough with playing the victim when you know damn good and well you're not. We all have our underlying motivations for remaining in a relationship whether personal or professional in which we don't belong, our authenticity disrespected, unappreciated, and even intimidating. We stay because we're getting something of value even if it's subconscious positive and/or negative validation of our own self-worth.
At this very moment in time, I have finally figured out the reason I keep putting myself in these situations. It's because they are abusive, dysfunctional yet comfortable, confirming my own lack of value.
I should have had the courage to walk away from these relationships a long time ago, creating a new, positive and nurturing dynamic. Then I would not even been attracted to any other situation where I felt the need to change myself or control someone else and the environment to sustain my own needs and insecurities.
So don't ever apologize if being authentic might unintentionally hurt someone else. Their reaction is NOT your problem. Sometimes "rejection" really is only a matter of being "typed-out," unrelated to anyone's inherent worth.
Besides, better to leave sooner than years even decades later. Why invest time in a losing battle for all involved? Never be afraid of being authentic even though others might not appreciate it. Life is damn too short for any one of us to feel badly for having the courage to "be."
